Hello everyone! Come and join me for an invigorating 35 mins of bodyweight exercises, condensed into a highly effective HIIT session.

Back in the mid-90's, Izumi Tabata discovered that just 4 minutes of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) was effective at boosting both cardiovascular fitness, as well as strength and power, and the 'Tabata protocol' was born: 4 minutes of intervals comprising 20 seconds work/10 seconds rest X 8 cycles. HIIT style training has gone on to change the fitness industry.

The original Tabata protocol demands extreme intensity in controlled conditions, and so a more measured approach is needed for online groups! My class is 35 minutes long, and mixes up the intensity so that anyone who is reasonably fit, healthy and injury free can take part. It is however still vigorous, and even the fittest of you will get an excellent workout.

You can expect variations of squats, lunges, jumping, press ups, planks and crunches. You will require a set of dumbbells, anywhere from 2 kg to 12 kg (each) depending on your strength and experience. Beginners are best off starting lower and building up. A set of resistance bands are also necessary, and you'll want a yoga mat for ground exercises. A kettlebell and an ab wheel will further enhance your workout, but these aren't requirements.
