DJing is an interesting craft, we often assume that the DJ is doing a variety of things when performing live. We see them switching knobs, pressing buttons and a variety of other activities. However, we do not see all the work that goes in the background in order for the DJ to be able to play that gig. In this introductory course, you will learn the context behind being a DJ. You will learn all the necessary requirements that a DJ needs to take care of when doing all the work for a performance. We will be chatting about equipment, resources and the culture and industry of DJing. Paz will be answering any specific questions or concerns that may come up as all of this information is shared with you. The goal of these introductory sessions is for you to decide whether it is a good time to start with this commitment as you become informed of all its requirements. You don’t need to make any extra purchases in terms of gear and equipment to take this course. These introductory sessions are great for all types of people who are curious about DJing and have a bit of a desire to try doing it, or for anyone that wants to learn a bit further about this truly special and powerful craft. By the end of this course you will know whether you want to actually start learning how to DJ so you can take the full DJ course that will prepare you for your first set or live performance. Topics in the intro sessions (plus a co creative atmosphere with attendees questions/concerns etc) -The DJ as a frequency operator. -In a nutshell, what does a DJ do, how is a DJ like a musician and how are they different. -DJ as an artist and DJ as an entertainer. -Industry of DJing, what can you do as a DJ? Where can you work? What is the vibe of each of the contexts? -Intro to DJing gear and equipment. -DJ as an audiophile, sound collector, and musicologist. -The importance of set lists, archiving and categorizing music and sound. -Getting your sounds, searching for music and having access to it. -The importance of soundsystem awareness and knowledge.
